A descendant of William Powell, Captain-of-the-Fort in the first successful British colony in America, the Jamestown Settlement of Virginia, from 1607-1622, and subsequently his son-in-law, William Parker, an investor in the company, I am enterprising by nature and undaunted by challenge.
I am well-educated, both formally and by life experience, but I would feel cheated if a day passed without my learning something new. My education stretches from the natural sciences through foreign languages and literatures to ancient religions and folklore.
In addition to extensive teaching experience, I founded and built a small business from 1974 to 2000, with all the experiences attendant to such an entrepreneurial enterprise, playing all roles from founder to sales-service representative.
Currently I speak four(4) of the seven(7) primary Germanic languages, and I intend to speak the remaining three(3) before the end of my days. Sanguine as I am about life in general, I enjoy people enormously. My customers and students are my friends. I enjoy a happy family life with four(4) successful entrepreneurial children and nine(9) amazing grandchildren, all thanks to a smart and good wife.
Technically "retired", I am not unlike my American cultural hero, Benjamin Franklin, in that I continue to enjoy the stimulation of work in my advancing years. My father taught me it is better to wear-out than to rust-out.
