ScottNet® Systems' development team is proud to show you this version of our on-line testing, currently in daily use in several institutions. Send constructive comments to blscott@scottnet.com; snide remarks to blscott@biteme.com.
These days many on-line testing systems are emerging on the Internet. So far, none of these offers the extensive functionality our system does, because authoring a versatile & flexible testing system is excessively hard work. The SIES On-Line Testing Service is only part of our comprehensive educational system. However, it is a complete, on-line testing solution for any subject-matter that businesses, schools, colleges, universities, vocational institutions, and government might require. Our target market is the organization needing on-line testing, but lacking either the financial or technological horse-power to create it, and that includes most university IT departments. This service offers a very high benefit-to-cost ratio and a comprehensive suite of tools to leverage our clients' resource base.
This on-line testing system has been built to store data using a structure that allows maximum reusability of that information. This structure also allows instructors and institutions to collaborate easily on test creation or editing via their web browsers from anywhere on the planet, either synchronously or asynchronously. The test material can be generated via any HTML 3.0+ web browser, using a secured login (user ID + password). Instructors use their browsers to create new tests, add/edit/delete test questions, add/edit/delete acceptable test answers, add/edit/delete images & sounds, review student grades, and otherwise administer and communicate with students as classes.
Students use a secured login with User ID and Password to access the testing site via any HTML 3.0+ web browser. They select a class and a lesson to bring them to a specific test. The program randomly selects test questions from the instructor's repository of available test questions. (NOTE: Test questions may utilize any HTML 3.0+ compatible medium, including sounds, pictures, video, or animations.) The student is then presented with a question (text, image, & sound) and must type his response as directed. When a student submits his response the system checks his answer against the (theoretically unlimited) number of allowed answers the instructor has provided for that question. If a student's answer is incorrect, the system determines which answer most closely resembles his response and deducts a point from his score. [In exercises the program also displays his response up to his first mistake.]
Additionally, ALL student responses are recorded for the instructor to review, keystroke by keystroke. The instructor may see exactly where students are making mistakes. The instructor may even choose to give credit retroactively for correct student responses the instructor had not originally provided. The system offers the instructor may metrics, allowing the instructor maximum flexibility in grading. When a student completes the test his score is displayed immediately. A student may review his grades at any time, and the instructor may do the same for all his students. The instructor may even revise his grading system at any time, because the data is stored in a structure that allows this functional flexibility.
The testing system utilizes a comprehensive suite of components to create the functionality described above, and much more. Institutions may elect to have this service "branded" for their institution with their logos, links, etc., but would be using our components (and probably one of our many servers).
This service will require you to login. You may be wondering: Where do logins come from? Well actually, the Daddy server and the Mommy server .... wait, wrong speech. To request a login please submit the information called for on the login request page. When the system notifies us of your request we can add you to the system, after which the magic box will open at your command. Please enjoy this service. Thank you in advance for your constructive feedback. --Brett Scott
